What are ECDL / ICDL Certification Programmes?
ECDL / ICDL certification programmes consist of modules which define the skills and competencies necessary to be a proficient user of a computer and common computer applications. Each ECDL / ICDL module provides a practical programme of up-to-date skills and knowledge areas which are validated by a test. Currently, there are 13 ECDL / ICDL modules in total. Modules 8-13 are not available in all countries.
ECDL / ICDL* Certification: ECDL / ICDL is the international standard in end-user computer skills. Our collective experience in implementing certification programmes across education systems and government administrations has demonstrated that for a recommended level of ICT competence to be achieved which would enable effective employability, a certification of a minimum of seven ECDL / ICDL modules is appropriate. To receive the ECDL / ICDL certificate, modules 2,3, and 7 are compulsory modules plus any 4 additional modules. Currently, the majority of countries offer Modules 1-7. Modules 8-13 are not available in all countries.

* ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) is known as ICDL (International Computer Driving Licence) outside of Europe
ECDL / ICDL Start Certification: For an individual to achieve a solid base of skills and knowledge, therefore attaining a minimum level of digital literacy, we recommend that candidates complete and attain certification in a minimum of four ECDL / ICDL modules. Although modules 2,3, and 7 are recommended modules plus any 1 additional module, other combinations of four modules are an acceptable standard in many countries.
