Staying Safe Online has never been so Important as World Marks Safer Internet Day

Staying safe online was a major theme this week as Safer Internet Day was marked around the world on 9 February. The day of activities, coordinated by the Insafe network, had the theme of, ‘Play your part for a better internet!’ Thousands of events were organised in over 100 countries around the world, with the aim of raising awareness of online safety issues like cyber-bullying and privacy.

Safer Internet Day was started in 2004, and expanded from its initial focus in Europe to be present in over 100 countries around the world. ECDL Foundation has long argued that online safety is growing in importance as more and more of our day-to-day activities involve some aspect of the internet. Our IT Security module, which was recently updated to take account of the changing nature of online risks, is specially designed to help computer users to understand how to keep themselves and their employers or schools, safe.
